A Farmer’s Portrait

This photo was taken a week before my dad’s 60th birthday.  When I tell people that my dad turned 60, if they know him, they question me because he doesn’t look or act his age.  Dad was born and raised on our family farm, he could get anywhere on it with his eyes closed.  He’s faced good times and bad times, as many other farmers have, and he wouldn’t give it up for the world.   I took this photo at about 11:00 or so at night, dad has to bust tail on the weekend to get harvest done because he also works full time.  I asked him to pause from getting things cleaned up for a couple minutes, and begged him to hold as still as possible because this is a long exposure.  It took a half dozen or so tries, the dogs just had to greet him from the field and kept jumping on him, but we finally got it.  I am so pleased with this picture, dad doesn’t particularly enjoy getting his photo taken, he’s big on making goofy faces at me.  I don’t know if he enjoyed this particular shot or if he was just too tired to argue, either way I’m glad I asked him to do it.
The photo above is part of the harvest set up on the farm.
